The Outer Sunset has a low-key, beach town vibe with stretches of aritisans' shops, restaurants and cafes on interior streets and along the mains drags of Noriega and Taraval Streets. Known for its foggy summer weather, the Outer Sunset is a popular destination for those wishing to escape summer heat.
Renowned as a top surfing spot for advanced surfers, there are also great walking, biking, and jogging routes along Sunset Boulevard, as well as tons of nature trails through magical Golden Gate Park. A local destination, Fort Funston, is a bastion of family fun, with dune exploration, and viewing of world-class hang gliding overhead. Nearby can be found the highest point in San Francisco, Mount Davidson, where the views will take your breath away.
The San Francisco Zoo is fantastic place for kids to experience wildlife firsthand. There's an educational center that holds regular classes on wildlife and conservation. The recently renovated Parkside Branch of the SF Public Library holds educational events and exhibits. And, one of the great gems of San Francisco, Stern Grove, hosts a widely anticipated free performing arts festival each summer. Area residents prepare picnics and make a blanket their home for the day while they are entertained by a wide array of performers and musical genres, including jazz, blues, and opera.
When it comes to housing, teh Outer Sunset offers a range of multi-family and single-family homes. Many residences have hardwood floors, fireplaces, garages, and backyards – a coveted space which is rare in many neighborhoods of The City. Muni’s N-Judah L-Taraval lines conveniently shuttle residents to and from Downtown SF.
